The Center Receives Maternal Health Award from Mother Cabrini Health Foundation
The Center is proud to announce that the agency has been selected as a 2025-2026 grantee of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. This support will allow The Center to provide culturally relevant outreach, education, and case management for Mohawk Valley refugees and immigrants to improve maternal health knowledge and access to pre- and post-natal health care, in order to positively impact maternal outcomes.
The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of New Yorkers, bolster the health outcomes of vulnerable communities, eliminate barriers to care, and bridge gaps in health services. Named after a tireless advocate for immigrants, children, and the poor, the Foundation funds programs and initiatives across New York State, including many that reflect a variety of religions and faiths. The grantees provide either direct healthcare services or address the social determinants of health. For more information, visit https://www.cabrinihealth.org/.
“New Yorkers rely on a web of nonprofits that are often the first and most trusted source of support. These grants help those organizations not only stabilize their services, but expand them, so they can bring care into homes, schools, rural communities, and neighborhoods where traditional systems have not kept pace with need.” said Kathryn Ruscitto, Regional Grants Committee Chair, Mother Cabrini Health Foundation Board and former President and CEO of St. Joseph’s Health in Syracuse, N.Y.
“Our region has a great need for culturally appropriate access to maternal and prenatal health care for refugees and immigrants,” said Jennifer VanWagoner, The Center’s Director of Strategic Initiatives. “We are grateful the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation Award will allow us to administer this program. The Center has an established relationship with refugee and immigrant populations and also maintains an extensive range of partner organizations that our staff work with on a continual basis. The Center also currently provides community education twice a month on-site for the adult English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes, which provides an established venue for maternal health education in a group setting.”
