The Mohawk Valley COVID Community Navigator Program has been initiated in Utica and Rome in direct response within minority populations regarding COVID-19 prevention education; access to healthcare and access to the vaccine. The program supported by the CDC Foundation, targets ethnic minority communities that have lower rates of vaccination, but have had high COVID-19 infection and hospitalization rates. These communities also lack access to the vaccine related to location, language, transportation or through technology, in order to register through online platforms. In addition, misinformation and mistrust have impacted vaccination rates.

The objective of the program is to reach out to different communities with trained navigators. Using up-to-date technology, they provide education and current information, from the CDC Foundation and other fact based sources, in multiple languages. This information is on COVID-19, the available vaccines, registration/appointment schedule and assistance during vaccination clinics.
